Our First 50 Years

Founded in 1959 to preserve a just-retired Type 5 streetcar, No. 5706, the Boston Street Railway Association has evolved and grown from 10 founding members to a membership of nearly 900 worldwide! In 2009, we celebrated our 50th anniversary of incorporation, and held a series of events and produced several materials that commemorated the historic milestone. Through the links below, you can learn about the founding of the Association, read recaps of the special events we conducted to commemorate our golden anniversary, and get a taste of what the future holds for the BSRA.
